Founded in 2014, Avanti Publishers has come a long way. We started with only three employees handling multiple tasks, few resources, and thirteen new journals. Over the years, we have learned a lot and have started following the best practices in scholarly publishing. As a result, we have improved our publication standards, attracted new submissions, increased the visibility of publications, and gained popularity among the scientific community. Our progress is evident from the fact that we have published over 400 articles and currently work with around 200 active editors worldwide.
Starting and running a scholarly journal without affiliations and support from an institution is challenging and requires patience. Since our journals were not indexed in reputable databases such as Web of Science and Scopus, it wasn’t easy to attract quality submissions. Due to the low number of submissions, the editors had to compromise on the quality of the publications, waive the processing fee for most submissions, and try to convince researchers to contribute to our journals. Still, we were lucky to have the trust and support from our Editors. Their efforts to maintain the quality of publications and collect submissions are the only reason we have been able to publish continuously.
Over the years, we’ve also come to value quality over quantity. Since finances made it impossible for us to maintain the quality of all thirteen journals, we ended up transferring four of them to Zeal Press, an academic publisher based in the United Kingdom. Since then, we have focused on improving the remaining nine journals.
Avanti Publishers is constantly working to improve the standards of our journals — as set by popular publishers –to meet the expectations of authors and readers. Recently, we started using the Open Journal System 3, which redesigned our website to make it mobile-friendly and added rich metadata to publications to enhance their visibility. We have also redefined our workflow, receiving and processing submissions online only. Finally, we added a marketing consultant to our team to provide social media presence to publications.
We hope that our efforts will aid in further developing our journals and our popularity and credibility as a publisher.
