Prof. Dr. Ing. Sci. Dir. Jean-Claude CHARPENTIER is Professor of Chemical Engineering in the field of multiphase gas-liquid-solid catalytic reactors encountered in the field of air and water depollution and in the field of Process Intensification, at Ecole Supérieure de Chimie Physique Electronique de Lyon (ESCPELyon) and at Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Industries Chimiques (ENSIC), Institut National Polytechnique de Lorraine (INPL), Nancy-University, France.
And he is also Emeritus Director of Research at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientific (CNRS) at Laboratoire Réaction et Génie des Procédés LRGP/CNRS/ENSIC/INPL Nancy-Université.
He got an Engineer degree (Master degree 1964) at Ecole Centrale
He held a doctoral degree in chemical engineering (PhD 1968) at the University of Nancy (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Industries Chimiques, ENSIC).
J C. Charpentier was the creator and head of a research team on multiphase gas-liquid-solid reactors (1968-1983) and Vice-Director of the Laboratoire des Sciences du Génie Chimique CNRS-ENSIC-Nancy (1978-1983).
J.C. Charpentier was Director (Dean) of ENSIC (1983-1985)
He was the Scientific Director of the Department of Engineering Sciences of CNRS, Minister of Research and Technology, Paris (1985-1992).
Then he was the Founder and the Director (Dean) of the Ecole Supérieure de Chimie Physique Electronique de Lyon from 1992 until 2005 (this Institution graduates every year 250 engineers (master degree) in the field of chemistry, chemical engineering and electrical engineering).
Since 2005, Professor Charpentier is back at the Laboratoire des Sciences du Génie Chimique, Department of Chemical Engineering LSGC/ENSIC/ INPL, Nancy-University. The new name of the Laboratory is “Laboratoire Réactions et Génie des Procédés” since 2010.
Since 1970 Jean-Claude Charpentier has published more than 210 papers in international scientific journals in the field of multiphase gas-solid-liquid reactors and bioreactors, and more recently in the general field of chemical and green process engineering. He has presented more than 125 oral lectures including 55 invited plenary or opening lectures in international congresses in the field of chemical and process engineering. He is the coauthor of 3 books on multiphase chemical reactors.
Professor Charpentier is permanent Ambassador of the International Congresses on Green Process Engineering (GPE) (2007, Toulouse, France; 2009 Venice, Italy; 2011, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; 2014, Séville, Spain)
He is Editor of the Journal Entropie, of les Techniques de l’Ingénieur, and Associate-Editor of Chemical Engineering Science UK), of Chemical Engineering Technology (D) and of Recent Patents on Chemical Engineering Journal (USA), Current Environmental Engineering (USA) and Processes (CH).
He has been consultant and member of the scientific board of several chemical and petrochemical companies (including IFPEnergies nouvelles, France).

He is a Member of the European Academy, Academia Europaea and of the New York Academy of Sciences
He is Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, IChemE (UK), Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE (USA) and Honorary Fellow of the Czech Society of Chemical Engineers CSCE (Cz).
Pr Charpentier has been the Scientific President of the French Society of Chemical Engineers (SFGP) (1997-2002)
Jean-Claude Charpentier has been also the President of the European Federation of Chemical Engineers (2002-2006).
J.C. Charpentier Is Officier de la Légion d’Honneur, Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite, Chevalier du Mérite Agricole
Médaille d’Argent 1978 (Silver Medal) of CNRS for the quality of his research in Chemical Engineering, i. e, in the field of multiphase reactors.
